Julie Johnson grew up west of International Falls, in tiny
Baudette, Minn. — the self-proclaimed Walleye Capital of the World — and she had to look in many different directions to map her course with the flute. Now 33, Johnson is an instructor at
MacPhail Center for Music and celebrating her first CD,
Arrest.
3-Minute Egg met with Johnson at her celebratory concert, in MacPhail’s Antonello Hall.

I loved her quote about bringing a flute to play in a jazz line up….What was it?
“Bringing a flute to jazz, is like bringing a knife to a gunfight.” It cracked me up. Awesome piece, Matt.
Nice piece on a great concert and a very talented musician. You go girl!!
This was excellent piece about a very talented musician. Love to see this musician go on and do great things!
A great interiew to expose a great musician in the Twin Cities music scene. Julie is quite a talent! She crosses music genres with an instrument that is rarely attempted – and she does it extremely well. Her new CD is definitely one to check out.
