The Sense of What Should Be

Dominic Orlando is a native New Yorker who came to Minnesota several years ago with a Jerome Foundation playwrighting fellowship. Now Orlando is one of the Twin Cities’ most active and prolific playwrights, with work produced throughout the country. 3-Minute Egg caught up with Orlando at a dress rehearsal for his new super-hero vehicle, The Sense of What Should Be, a Workhaus Collective production running through November 22 at the Playwrights’ Center.

One man, many puppets

Masanari Kawahara is a native of Hiroshima, a Buddhist and a longtime puppeteer in the Twin Cities. He blends the varied facets of his life in his new one-man show, A Path Home: A Story of Thich Nhat Hanh, a biography of the Vietnamese monk, writer and peace activist. Kawahara performs Nov. 6-22 at In the Heart of the Beast Theatre.

More than Ballet Minnesota

Andrew Rist has always anchored his Ballet Minnesota to some of the classics of the form. But each fall, for the past four years, he has opened the door to new choreography — including the program for the company’s fall concert this Friday and Saturday at the Fitzgerald Theater. 3-Minute Egg dropped into a rehearsal at Ballet Minnesota’s studio in Lowertown St. Paul sand talked with Rist about his artistic growth.

Love is Blind … and Furry

Jason Ballweber has performed often and with several troupes in the past year, but he’s focusing on his own work with Four Humors, directing the show he wrote, Love is Blind … and Furry, running through Nov. 14 at the Bedlam Theater. 3-Minute Egg met with Ballweber during a run-through.

Kapil, Rue and Hanuman

Playwright Aditi Brennan Kapil, on the heels of having her third child, created a sequel and composer Gary Rue contributed his 31st score to Stepping Stone Theatre, which is staging their Hanuman and the Girl Prince through November 8. 3-Minute Egg met with both creators during a run-through.
