Eight years ago, John McCain, in his run for the 2000 Republican nomination for president, responded to a reporter’s question by saying, “I hate the gooks — I will hate them as long as I live.” This inspired Minneapolis performance poet and spoken word artist Bao Phi (pronounced Bow Fee) — a native of Sai Gon, Vietnam, born to Chinese and Vietnamese parents — to write “Dear John McCain,” a poem styled as a letter to the senator. On the eve of this election, 3-Minute Egg thought it approrpriate to post the entire piece, which Bao Phi recently reprised while hosting an evening of poetry at Intermedia Arts. WARNING: EXPLICIT LANGUAGE.

Powerful piece … needed to be run as is to keep its power. Nice to see that editing and ego take a back seat to content. Yea Matt!!
Go, Bao! And on this beautiful Obama morning, a perfect, perfect punctuation mark!
