The Loft Literary Center offers a range of programs for writers of color. One is Inroads, created 20 years ago as a “seminary and study program” for writers outside Minnesota’s dominant ethnicity. The latest incarnation tapped six young novelists, poets and memoirists to study and engage in their culture under a mentor — Gwen Westerman, an Inroads alum. 3-Minute Egg went to the public readings that capped the summer-long program.
Native American Inroads
Got something to say? Go for it!
Thank you, Matt, for doing such a wonderful job showcasing our emerging Native writers in the Inroads program! 3 minute Egg is cho! (the Dakota word for “awesome”!)
Thank you, for sharing this “awesome” piece about the work of the Loft with Native writer.
The “pen”, or written word, still can be’ mightier than the sword’.
It was refreshing for me to see young native writers navigate ,and learn to negotiate, the complexity of living in two worlds (cultures).
I am interested in having them share with others in secondary and post secondary education communities.
