St. Paul beat out more than 60 teams from around the country this summer to win the National Poetry Slam. Now poets are vying for spots on the St. Paul team that will defend that title at the 2010 National Poetry Slam — which St. Paul is hosting next summer. 3-Minute Egg went to this season’s first slam and spoke with the team’s coach and one of last year’s team members about winning the title and the road ahead. The St. Paul slam — otherwise known as Soap Boxing — happens the first Monday of every month at the Artists’ Quarter.
